Well made with a sharp point

I was disappointed that this was made in China. A previous review listed Taiwan, but the box says China. This type of instrument is much rarer than it was many years ago. This is one of the best currently available.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Not sure

Unique design

The best tongs I have ever used. Crescent is the only brand I found with this design. They should last for many years of hard work. My photos show the difference from other brands at the end of the handle, which makes them unique. This design allows me to tie the fence clamps faster than any other tool I have used.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Weight

Slight disappointment for this brand and price

Sturdy construction, works well but despite careful lubrication with penetrating oil and even after at least 100 repetitions this tool is very difficult to open - impossible for me with one hand. For the price it should be better made. On the other hand, there's a lot of steel here and I expect it to last forever. High quality plastic coating

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Some flaws

Non-hardened, soft metal mushrooms, not heavy for long shots

When the fence staples are buried, you need to hammer in the beak and the flat head of the hammer comes out with mushrooms. It also sharpens its beak, but that simply means it will bend or break off and soon become unusable. This and one of the grip sleeves slipped off after the first use. For the price I expected much better; Even DeWalt pliers are cheaper than these things. "Heavy Duty" is of course a misnomer.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

The picture is not correct but the model number and description are correct (fence pliers). The tool is well made, but if you're driving more than one or two staples at a time, you'll want to use a real hammer. The claw is ESSENTIAL for removing staples. One of the reasons I chose Crescent is that the claw is sharper and thinner than a lot of other cheap brands that got bad reviews for being too thick to remove staples. While waiting for them to ship I used a hammer, 2 pound sledgehammers, aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • so far so good

Ideal for removing stuck carpet staples and nails

These pliers are great for removing carpet staples and nails. The curved head acts as a pivot to pull out stubborn staples and nails. No more calluses on your hand from pulling, just handle and lever. No need to drag, just use the pivot. I know I don't use this for fence but I'm so happy how well it worked for my application.

Pros
  • Scalloped hammer head with two strong electronically hardened wire cutters
Cons
  • Can't remember

Deserves five stars

I chose this tool because I needed to rip out an old barbed wire fence. The description of the tapered side of the tool head sounded like a design feature needed to start removing old fence staples. I used a separate hammer to tap the spot under the old strut, loosening it, and then using pliers to grab/pull the strut out of the old post. Worked great and didn't lose a single old clip to the ground. Looking back I think I'll do my best to make it a five star rating!

Pros
  • Two clips for clips in the nose and a wire clip between the handles for tensioning the wire
Cons
  • Long delivery time
