Big disappointment with DVD-VCR combos

I got this unit from Target after my old DVD player broke down. I was just looking for a replacement DVD player and then came across this device. My VCR was also getting old and I thought it would be a good idea to replace both at once. Finally it would have been cheaper than buying separate units and there would have been a lot less wiring, less than a remote control etc. Well the VCR worked great and I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality (I have pretty good sound). ). System)…

VCR overpriced. suitable for TV and video

I bought this in February (7 months ago) and I liked it as it was a compact/combi. I've mainly used it for a DVD player as I record my own, but I find it makes a good VCR too. It worked great until recently when it started reading DVDs. It starts reading the DVD normally, but within a minute it starts to shake and after about a minute it "jumps" a minute further in the DVD to a new area. I can almost go back to when he jumped to see what was missing, but that happens quite often and isn't a…

I'll stay away from it

I used to sell my old Zenith Allegro VCR for $30 because it was time for an upgrade - the old Allegro was mono -sound! So I bought it from Target on Clearance for $72. I hooked it up to component video (which I recommend for any TV that accepts red, green, and blue RCA cables for video; the best picture possible!) and the DVD looked pretty good, not as good as my Panasonic DVD Player in fall 2001, still works great! But when I saw the first season of "Scrubs" I rewound quite a bit because Dr…

It "still works " after 2 years, however.

Bought 2 years ago because I needed to replace my 10 year old Mitsubishi VCR which decided it would no longer work. I had the money and since the VCR/DVD set was only $100 I thought the set idea was a great one. I don't really need a DVD player as both my PS2 and computer support DVDs. I could also just connect my computer to the VCR using the S-Video connector on the back of the graphics card, but that doesn't matter. Anyway I bought it because I needed something new and since it was cheap I…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions

  • No performance

The newer models are much better.

UPDATE 2: I replaced my unit under warranty. The VCR picture quality is now excellent. It's as good as any VCR I own. The tape counter now also works perfectly. The video recorder picture quality of the first unit I received was poor. UPDATE 1: I DEVELOPED AN ANNOUNCING CAUSE IN MY DEVICE. When playing back a tape recorded at SLP speed, the VCR sometimes plays it back in SP mode. This depends on which part of the tape you start playback from. When you rewind the tape, you can find a spot where…
