Worked as advertised

Was perfect and worked great but I've only used the boat 3 times since the starter was installed so can't give it 5 stars yet

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • quality

Might have been a marriage

Took 5 minutes to install, ran 4 times, then shorted out and blew the engine fuse in my 1998 125hp Mercury and now it won't start. Spins but not enough force to flip

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Some minor things

However, this starter was incorrect.

This starter does not fit although the description says it is for my engine. The gear that meshes with the flywheel had 2 fewer teeth than on my engine.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • Nothing here

Works perfect! best parts

I replaced a defective original starter on a 2002 Mercury 125hp outboard. I was a little worried it wouldn't work but didn't want to pay OEM prices so I gave this one a try and I'm glad I did. My engine starts like new.

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • Appearance

So far so good, but it wasn't cold outside, etc.

Starter and starter magnet replaced at the same time. So far so good, but it wasn't cold outside or anything. Neither the starter nor the solenoid come with instructions or a wiring diagram, so take pictures of everything before you start unplugging the wires. This would be a 5 star product if it came with instructions or diagrams.

Pros
  • Annual probationary period
Cons
  • Doubt

The product looks good BUT!

Remember it has 8 teeth so I think it's made for bigger engines. A 75 HP 2 smoker needs a ten prong. They also have a smaller shaft otherwise I would replace the drive from my OEM starter. So when I hear about tooth decay, guess why! Fortunately the flywheel gears were not damaged. Well, who or what says they fit in all these engines if they don't cause hassle and expense for what? My purchase is being returned, so $$ for no good reason.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Useless features
