Cloth material wears/torn quickly

Maybe in a month or two the tops will be completely torn, usually after 6 months I'll be walking on the bottoms, not this time.

while applying some heat a few times to help the fabric relax) runs half a size larger

very slim. Careful, wide-legged people. Going up half a size is not enough. However, if you can handle a break-in period (a couple of days while applying some heat to loosen the canvas a few times), half a size larger will be fine. I would probably go full size to avoid discomfort but then the shoe would probably be too big after the canvas came loose.
