Okay, the name might sound a bit wrong, but it's supposed to protect against that, isn't it? Do not ignite flexible fuel lines. Two of these and a heat shield are installed next to my new engine and they are all fine. I check them regularly and find no damage. I have these for my metal transmission cooler lines that run alongside my new long pipe headers to keep the lines/transmission fluid as cool as possible.
