Description of DEWALT DW5230 8 Inch 6 Inch Carbide
ROCK CARBIDE tip maximizes carbide surface contact for longer bit life. Four flute design cleans debris out for fast, efficient drilling. Three flats on shank eliminate bit slipping in chuck.
DeWalt bits are of excellent quality although like any other bit used by a mason's hammer they are short lived. So far this bit has lasted longer than the last two Bosch bits I've used to drill holes in foundation or masonry. The size of the chisel was perfect for this - I used my hammer and hammered in a piece of rebar which fit perfectly and the concrete patch is holding up great! instead of making a separate trip to the hardware store.
Now I know the purpose of the perforator. I bought 2 drill bits and figured I could use a regular drill bit to drill holes in aged concrete. The first drill was destroyed in less than a minute with a conventional drill. Used another old drill bit that drilled reliably through the concrete block with the same result. Bought an inexpensive electric hole punch at the local Orange Box store and tried again. It worked as advertised, drilled 4 nice holes (water was used to cool the drill). It looks…
I bought 2 for a job that required fixing 5 commercial mall trash cans to standard concrete. These are 20 holes approximately 1.25" deep for 3/8" x 3" wedge bolts. I got to the eighth hole and noticed a lack of power and a blue drill bit from high heat. Switched to my second backup bit and same, got to hole 16 and barely drilled. Luckily I had a Bosch HCBG12 Blue Granite bit to finish the last 4 holes. A big noticeable improvement, but at $9 a piece it's almost triple the price. For the price…
