Missing Bowl - my new review

I rated this at one star because upon receiving the package I counted only six bowls. It was disturbing to me though I didn't bother trying to contact the company for a singular bowl.To purchase a set amount of something and to not receive that is not a pleasant experience. I took advantage of the missing bowl and purchased a single bowl made of silver and gold from a different seller. The bowl is a bit larger than the six that came in that shipment so I place that in the center and I like it…

Pros
  • Great product. Good quality
Cons
  • These are getting a build up and starting to tarnish from the water already after a few months.

Very nice offering bowls

I am including this review mainly in response to another that claims these offering bowls cannot be used for water and will rust almost immediately- Brass does not rust. The copper component in brass will tarnish into a greenish or bronzy-brown stuff called Vertigris or Patina. I think that "rust" is beautiful and unlike steel/iron rust it, will provide a protective coating. Very beautiful.

Pros
  • Home & Kitchen
Cons
  • The price point of the bowls may be prohibitive for some users, as they can be more expensive than other similar offerings on the market

These are lovely in my review

These are very well made but not 2.5 " in diameter. They are smaller @ just under 2 inches across and about 1 high but their quality is very good. Customer service was helpful and made the return easy. I hope they have these in the 2.5" in size. Great for an altar that is small. Sadly not large enough for us.

Pros
  • Home Décor Products
Cons
  • The weight of the bowls may not be suitable for those looking for a more lightweight option, as they are made of brass and can be quite heavy

Olive oil rust treatment

It seems that the trick of using olive oil on the inside of ritual items to fix and prevent rust isn't well known. Rust is a common problem with some water offering bowls. Simply cleaning them and wiping them down with a little olive oil seems to do the trick.

Pros
  • Set of 7 bowls made of Brass with engraved auspicious symbols.
Cons
  • The maintenance of the bowls may be challenging, as brass can tarnish easily and may require frequent cleaning to maintain its shine

Pretty and a good size

Other reviewers have written that the bowls rusted when they used them with water and I had a similar experience, especially with one out of the 7 bowls. However, after using them for about a week and wiping it out after each use, it seems to have stopped. I've had them for a few months now and they have a sort of rusty/weathered look inside now (which is actually kind of pretty) but it doesn't discolor/contaminate the water as far as I can tell. They look very pretty on my altar.

Pros
  • Hand crafted in India By Tibetan Refugees.
Cons
  • Inexperienced users may find it difficult to use the bowls correctly, as they are intended for traditional water offerings and require specific knowledge and practice

Not for water: my feedback

I'm not sure what these are made of but it is inappropriate for water offerings. They rust in a matter of hours. I feel sorry for the company if they are knowingly misrepresenting offering bowls.

Pros
  • It measures Approximately 2 " Diameter and 1.25" High
Cons
  • The size of the bowls (2" diameter) may be too small for some users, making them difficult to use or fill without making a mess

Odd One Out best in my review

One of the bowls came without coating, and began to rust immediately. That was disappointing, but all in all they serve their purpose :)

Pros
  • 7 Water Offering Bowls Set also known as Dintsar in Tibetan
Cons
  • The design of the bowls may not appeal to everyone, as it is heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhist tradition and may not fit with all decor styles

Tibetan water offering bowls

I purchased these water offering bowls for the Tibetan Buddhist shrine. Losar is February 19. I like them because they are small, take up less space, and require less water which is good in this drought although I do save the water at the end of the day (and use it on plants). If you purchase them you must prepare them, and be familiar with their proper use and care. They are not for decoration. These are not solid, they are plated.

Pros
  • Traditionally placed on Buddhist shrine, altar filled with water every morning as a way of collecting merit and virtue.
Cons
  • Some users may find the requirement for traditional water offerings to be restrictive, as it limits the use of the bowls for other purposes or in other ways
