The โ€œService 4x4โ€ ad I found in my .

Fixed the "Service 4x4" light that was appearing on my 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4. Make sure the drive is in the same gear as the transfer case. Use a crescent wrench to turn the gear on the drive.

Fixed transfer case shifting issues.

I had trouble switching to 2-high after switching to 4-low or 4-high. It sometimes took several minutes to switch between them before my old transfer case motor finally shifted into 2nd high gear. It was a direct replacement for my 1999 Silverado LS with a 5.3 engine. It took about an hour to install and solve my problem! I've only had it one day but I'm very happy with it and the price.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

The Dorman 600-901 is an exact OEM replacement in the sense that it fits perfectly and fails abruptly. Installed according to instructions. Easy. Worked great. for a day. 2WD, automatic 4WD. then, two days after installation, the same problem reoccurred when starting: all the transfer case switches lit up and the neutral light came on again. Doesn't respond to input. Pulled the TC fuse and ordered a new Dorman 901 transfer case motor and a new TC motor indicator/selector ring #88962315. Willโ€ฆ

Perfect aftermarket replacement

OEM transfer case motors on S-10 Blazers have a design flaw that allows dirt and water to enter and eventually cause malfunctions. This prevents auto 4wd, 2wd, 4wd hi and 4wd low toggling. This part replaces the factory engine and also has a seal to prevent the same from happening again. It's easy to install and works great. Please Note: If you haven't replaced any of these yet, please read the included instructions before you begin. The engine is idling, so you must set the selector switch toโ€ฆ

probably a bad

I installed the block. Before reinstalling the driveshaft and skid plate, I checked them first. It seemed to be working fine. Can switch between all positions. Everything reassembled, tools put away, truck off the jack. Went from neutral to 2hi and the light just blinked. The actuator sounded like it was trying to shift then a 4WD service message appeared. Ignition key turned off, tried again but this time on 4lo. The engine and transfer case rattle, then the 4lo light came on as if it hadโ€ฆ

Great product, fits perfectly.

Therefore, long-term reliability (which seems to displease people) has yet to be determined. But the exact same Dorman unit would fetch me $330-$350 at any local auto parts store here in Alaska. Got Revain Prime in 2 days for a lot less than half the cost. A dealer block (which admittedly has a bearing mount on the sprocket instead of a bronze bushing and looks a little better) would have cost 3.5 times as much. Installing the block took 1 hour (don't pull the driveshaft, at least on the K2500โ€ฆ
