🔧 Dorman 711-900 Lug Wrench Drive with 1/2 In. Efficiency: A Review Review

I was recently having my BMW 3 Series serviced and I started to feel vibrations in the steering wheel. I stopped the car and found that one of the front wheels was loose. Unfortunately my BMW is fitted with run flat tires which means there is no wrench tool kit. The owner of the Audi was kind enough to use me to tighten the bar and I was on my way. I ordered this remedy as soon as I got home.

My used car didn't come with a wrench. Used it the same day I got it to remove the front tires and replace the brake pads. Correct size included to remove lug nuts without slippage. Extending the handle gave me the torque to loosen the nuts stress-free. I used to have to stand on a factory key so it was really nice to have that key and not need it.

Actually I thought not to buy this because it didn't mention that it comes with a carrying case. Turns out it comes with a little pouch for everything, nothing that could take much wear and tear, but it's there. Good and heavy weight, lit and taken out a few times and taking a look at the sockets (double sided so only 2 shown in the picture) they seem to be of the right quality. I hope I never have to use it but it's there when I need it and that's why I bought it, peace of mind.

First impression when using is fine. The grip feels solid and extends to a longer position. The locking mechanism is iffy, not sure if it will hold up over time. When attaching a double-sided socket, there is a switch between the socket and the handle. When I tried to loosen the wheel grommets I could almost feel the jack trying to slide/jump off the wheel grommet head. I think I'll buy a separate non-double sided outlet for peace of mind. The Dorman 711-900 is a well built and compact wrench. I bought this to use with my T@B 320S Boondock Lite which has separate lug sizes for two aluminum alloy wheels (3/4") and a steel spare wheel mount (13/16"). I really like that it offers four standard sizes of tips combined in two sockets (ie two sizes at each end of each of the two separate metal sockets). This is a very good tool for loosening stuck nuts. I've had it for several years and it has never failed a job. I don't know about really big trucks or other big vehicles, but it's spot on for most cars. It has 2 reversible sockets for 4 different sizes and a convenient storage bag. I bought this as a just in case tool (prep mentality) but ended up using it twice to change tires, fix a friend's new set of wheels and fix my SUV's dust cover . I'm telling you, don't get caught with an apartment without anything like this. Tire shops really need to hand tighten lugs if they don't have an adjustable impact wrench.
