They seem too soft to be cobalt. I used #18 to drill two mounting holes in the jaws of a cheap imported caliper after trimming the caliper jaws with a Dewalt hacksaw blade. The hacksaw blade was no problem and stays sharp, but this drill dulled immediately when the cutting fluid (Viper's Venom) ran out. The speed was 620 rpm, which is certainly not too fast for a #18 drill. Cobalt steel is more heat resistant than high speed steel. I doubt it's cobalt. Split blade drill bit and well centered.
Excellent drill bits, very strong and stay sharp. I've used them for a ton of drilling in mild steel, aluminum, and wood with almost no problems (except breaking a small piece due to my own misalignment). I would definitely buy cobalt drills again but with this set I doubt I will have to buy them for long. They are long enough that the point shifts and may not be centered.
I have just received this set of 115 pieces. probably M35 5% cobalt index drill. I was disappointed to see that the #15 drill was missing from the kit. It seems that this set was put together from drills from different manufacturers and not from the same source, you can see different coatings and different marking processes in the picture. I don't mind much if they are close in quality. Pros: It's great value for money, other kits cost the same just for regular HSS. Although the drills lookβ¦
