Use your own vise for extra pressure

The handles are flimsy but quality tools cost five times as much. I was repairing a boat cover and felt the handles were starting to fail (like my last pair) and was complaining that their handles weren't as strong as a vise when it dawned on me. I took a pair of heavy duty pliers and placed them on the pressure end against the handles and used them to apply extra pressure which also allowed me to apply pressure with both hands. It performed like a champ and didn't put too much strain on the…

  • Vulgarity

Here's what I found:

Right out of the box I didn't receive all the parts that were supposed to come with the tool. I have two cone stamps and no die. Both are necessary to make a hole in the fabric to thread the clasp. It holds the clasps together very well. The cap and the base and the bolt and the pin were firmly connected. But when it came time to snap the top and bottom together, we ran into trouble. The metal stamp pushes the petal pin onto the socket, so the latch itself cannot secure. (pic 1) I solved this…

24P does not crimp metal, but cuts it

The rivet part of the button is reversed to attach the button to the fabric to fix. This tool does not roll or crush metal. It tears through metal like a banana peel. If you look at the rig you will see a starfish pattern, not a smooth upside down cylinder. If you're looking for professional results, use a different tool. Even cheap hammer and anvil tools for setting the latches will do crimping. Not this tool. You will get torn metal inside the snap cap and socket. I bought this tool because…

Pros
  • Used to attach western 9/16 inch (1.42 cm) fasteners - Dritz SKU: 105-3
Cons
  • Some errors

Works well most of the time

Once you understand how these pliers and their fasteners are used, they just work well. The instructions in the box were poor. It was not clear in the online video which fittings to use for the Dritz pliers and which latch and latch parts are the correct counterparts. I messed up 3 bars before figuring out how to do it. Dritz #981-1 fasteners work well with .060 inch fabric material. It is not necessary to pre-punch a hole (as indicated) before attaching these buttons to the fabric. These…

Made for sewing

They've served their purpose. I ordered the repair of a bad rig. I see some people saying they're bent while mine isn't. I bet if you're really addicted to them they could, but I was able to build the rig without using my full power. After reading the reviews I started to wonder if people were just trying to punch through the material without punching a hole first. I would have to assume that if you miss the hole you will have to use too much force which in turn can bend the pliers. Mine came…
