Purchased to replace leaky stock rubber hoses. They should last for the life of several washing machines. The square end goes in the back of the machine so you can push the machine closer to the wall, but you can plug the square end into a wall outlet if you have recessed outlets that don't have enough room to bend those hoses ( they are less flexible than rubber). You just can't put the machine as close to the wall as possible. I recommend everyone to replace the rubber hoses with metal hoses.
