🔧 Enhance Engine Performance with Edelbrock 4025 Uni-Syn Carburetor Balancing Instrument Review

SU carburetors on my dad's MGB need rebuilding. This worked great, even for someone like me who believes carburetors must be powered by some form of dark magic.

When I first ordered I was a bit skeptical about the build quality. Unfortunately I lost my original Uni-Syn tooling which was made in England and I was expecting this Taiwanese part to be made from a ridiculously cheap mold. This uni syn tool works flawlessly. It's not as bad as those cranky old farts put it in their reviews.

The unit arrived exactly as described in the picture Edelbrock 4025. I received it today and have already successfully synchronized my 2 carburettors (34 PDSIT2/3) on my 72ft VW bus. It lacks the build quality of my English original that I had in the 80's, but it works just as well. The gauge tube is plastic in a cast metal (zinc?) column. Obviously, in use, the column must be folded vertically. It folds conveniently for storage in a cheap paper box and bubble wrap.

This uni-syn was exactly as described, the photo is exactly as it came. The reason I give it 4 stars is because the unit doesn't say Edelbrock anywhere and the instructions look like a photocopy of an old manual. Pros Worked very well to balance my Datsun 240z carbs. This unit is not working properly. If you buy one, look at it immediately. Didn't have time to use it until the 30 day return window closed (2 days ago). Raising the float in the gauge requires excessive vacuum, so great that the vacuum created in the carburetor throat at idle is nowhere near enough for the gauge to function. I tried to balance HS2 carburetors on my 1275cc MG Midget with this tool. Couldn't get the gauge below 1500 rpm at all, which is a useless situation for balancing purposes.
