Non true black and white camera

Non true black and white camera is just matched firmware and Bayer sensor, so there can't be any improvement in low light performance. The UVC driver allows manual exposure control, but no more than 500 ms. Really looks more like a crippled camera with a misleading description and overall lackluster image quality.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Something different

Works well. suitable for computer accessories and peripherals

Used on the back deck of a commercial fishing boat. This allowed me to keep an eye on the rear of the deck for the wheelhouse, which has limited visibility aft. This allowed me to follow the crew in rough conditions with minimal lag, and I could even use it when docking the boat. It survived the sea fishing season, which speaks to its longevity.

  • Fair
Cons

Great addition to my 3D printer setup

It was a great addition to my 3D printer setup. I appreciate the industrial design that matches my printer and the camera can be positioned both near and far thanks to the adjustable manual lens. The only problem is that the USB cable is quite long and thick which can make it a bit unwieldy for this purpose, but you can solder together a smaller cable like I did if you have the skills.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Hard to say

Great for remote viewing

This little camera works great. I designed the housing on a 3D printer so I could attach it to our hydroponic grow room. Growth in a hydroponic system can now be monitored remotely or by viewing a monitor. The fisheye angle was really the only way to see everything and it works great. I had to buy several USB cable extensions to connect the camera to my computer. So if you use the camera in this way, I would recommend getting some USB extenders.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Doubt

When I first plugged this in and tested it on Linux, I had a very bad framerate when using Cheese (Linux Mint 15). I just tried it on another Linux machine with more modern packages (arch) and it worked much better. I still haven't figured out what V4L2 options to use to improve the behavior. The camera handles low light better than most other webcams I've tried. The image is fairly sharp, but the colors appear less vibrant than most webcams. Maybe a regular webcam fixes this programmatically…

Amazing for mixed reality VR (Twitch, Mixer, YouTube)

I needed a camera with a very wide field of view and many of my streamer friends told me I had to get a GoPro. The cheapest I found was $180. I had already spent so much on VR and other tech for my PC that I wasn't going to spend another $200 or so. I was looking for a fisheye camera and came across this one. Ordered immediately after seeing another review about a twitch streamer using it (I think they use it for Dungeons & Dragons or something). I have a camera about 5-7 feet from where I'm…

Dust on the image sensor creates large dark spots

Out of the box, the image shows various large dark streaks which are clearly due to dust on the sensor. I've bought over half a dozen different ELP camera boards, failures are pretty common. Maybe you'll have better luck than me this time. Aside from the extra dust on the sensor, this is a well designed product. The lens is easy to adjust unlike some others. It's not a pro SLR lens or anything, but it seems pretty good. I use them with Orange Pi SoC, Armbian Linux and mjpg streamer boards to…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

I received the item as advertised. As a result, I received ELP-USB130W01MT-FV. It's essentially the same camera but with no drivers on the back and video capture speed. It ran at 24Hz at a resolution of 720p. I need higher fps for a project I'm doing. That's why I chose the advertised camera and not this one. I think you don't get what you paid for. :-(Update. I sent a complaint to their customer support. They told me it should still get 60 fps at 720p. I restarted it and plugged it back in. I…

Need a better webcam lens

I'll probably come back and edit this in a few months, but for now. I wanted to use the USB camera as a low power inspection microscope. I had an old USB microscope camera that never worked properly and decided to replace the camera board and lens. I want the working distance from the front of the lens to the workpiece to be between 12" and 24". Searching Revain I found a "stock" for this camera with a 2.8-12mm varifocal lens. I decided to make it the heart of my FrankenCamera. First, note that
