Decent cheap option

Like all the cheaper ones this one is softer metal with weaker nuts/fixings but still does the job. The rubber feels comfortable. I added my own lock nuts instead of relying on lock washers, but that's not necessary. Whether you use lock nuts or lock washers, either way it seems like you'll need to replace them after a few years of use, and when the soft threads wear out too much to do any more work you'll need to buy another. If you want a more durable and long-lasting version, take a look at…

Stabilizing your roof rack

I recently bought a roof rack that attaches to my trailer. All the reviews I read recommended buying this item. Due to the low cost I thought what the heck I'd add it to my order. First we loaded the truck trailer with one of those oversized Costco refrigerators and then a pile of firewood. The cargo carrier wobbled a little since it didn't fit very well, so we were worried it might bounce around. So we added this little thing and it really made everything stable. We went into the mountains…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Protection

I don't know why the bolt is so long, it doesn't make sense. The first day I used it it scraped the ground tearing it off the hitch and bending the pin, after that it scraped the ground several times until I took it off (my car is no lower than any other car). I had to shorten the screw to just the right length so it wouldn't permanently scratch the road, the shorter screw also made installation much quicker and more convenient. The bolt is also fairly soft metal and bends easily when tightened

Not even class 5 hardware

This is for the lightest applications. I tried using it with a weight distribution hitch on a caravan. I screwed it as tight as I could with a regular 3/8" ratchet. I was pleased with how tight the clutch was in the receiver. It was pressed firmly to the ground. I hooked my trailer, tightened the pegs and noticed that it wasn't tight at the bottom. Should have stretched. I looked up the torque value for the class 5 1/2" bolt and found it to be 75 ft/lbs. I properly adjusted my torque wrench and

U-Bolt Issues: Guide Kits

I love that this clutch tensioner has eliminated the wobble on my 2" clutch. Because you really need to tighten the bolts to make sure the wobble doesn't happen when you're on the road. However, I noticed that after a few uses, the U-bolt was bent due to the necessary tightening. If the nuts aren't tight enough, you won't be able to achieve the desired goal; everything will rattle and possibly fall apart. So if you tighten the screws with enough force, after a while the screw will start to…

Essential Hitch Add-On

This is a great product. If you search for "installing a hitch tensioner" and watch the videos, they usually show that the curved lip of this device should be on the male side of the hitch linkage (i.e. trailer) and not on the inside of the hitch (component hitch attached to the underside of the car). However, several Revain test photos show the opposite, and I'm not sure if that matters. As several reviewers have pointed out, the ends of the U-bolt screws are too long for 1¼" clutches and this

Purchased for use with double extension and cargo trailer hitch

Purchased for use with Erickson Cargo Transporter 07496 with sidewalls (folding, 500lb load capacity) First use - only used ball hitch for 5/ x trailers earlier (unfortunately I was aware of this issue at the time Not). Here is the setup So I bought mine from the Amazon warehouse - like new condition. NO! There were no support arms - bolts and bolts. Well I needed one with sides for a trip in 2 weeks so I had no choice and bought a separate one that had no sides but came with a foldable mount…
