Timing Belt Tensioner 2.4L

Like most tools I order this way, I use it once and it sits in my toolbox for the next few years until I need it again, can't comment on the quality over time but it fits perfectly and works as described

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • Nothing

Works great if you follow the store's manuals.

Worked great. The problem people have when shearing pins is that they are trying to apply the torque of the main pin to that element. This is only used to hold the pulley in place with 7 ft-lbs of torque while the main bolt is torqued to the final higher setting.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • old

Fits perfectly. - Belt Tensioner

I wish I had this BEFORE I changed the timing belt on Kia Sorento. It fits perfectly and would be more accurate with this tool. I was able to tension the auto tensioner with a screwdriver/small pry bar, but that would have made it a lot easier. It stays in my toolbox for the next round. IF you are planning a timing belt - get this tool first. This will greatly facilitate the work.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Ideal for pretensioning the toothed belt.

My timing belt work was done on a car engine. I used a 1/4" pry bar on the tool and a 3/8" torque wrench on the support bolt. Not the best choice for in-car timing belt work simply because the 1/4 drive point protrudes too far causing backlash issues. If your engine is outside of the car, this tool will work perfectly. I could do it in the car, but it was far from easy.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Not bad

This is nothing more than a cheap piece of metal. Broke on first use! Found the best solution on the internet. Use needle nose pliers and vise pliers. When I started tightening the pulley to spec the junk just broke and my knuckles went right into the harmonic balance gears resulting in a nice cut. You don't need this tool to remove the tensioner, but you do need a much better tool to install it to spec.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • unreliable

A quality tool is worth the investment - use INCH pounds for the spanner.

A quality tool that will easily handle 39 in-lbs (Belt Tension Torque Specification) and get the job done right. People here said it breaks - must use ft-lbs (manual/internet is confusing) or not? I found it a learning tool for the job and had no problems. After spending five hours taking the car apart to change the timing belt (Chrysler Cirrus 2.5L) I wanted to make sure it was torqued to spec using needle nose pliers or a home made vise. The use of this tool is allowed "once".

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

If you need it, you need it

I've been trying to make a timing belt tensioner tool for my 11 Galant with no success. This tool did its job. The manual says to tighten it to 25 inch-lbs but I couldn't get my torque wrench in. However, if you've been spinning for a while, you probably know that 25 inches per pound is the point at which a bolt (or belt or whatever) starts to resist. then did it manually. No problem. You'll probably only use this tool once, but maybe you can sell it on eBay? Also, the tension on the Galant was

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • It's OK
