Description of Experience The Stars With The Orion StarBlast II 4.5 EQ Reflector Telescope Kit

This wide-field reflector telescope has enough aperture for great views of the Moon, planets, and many bright deep-sky objects. A fantastic general-purpose astronomical telescope - great for the beginner to test the waters with mirror optics large enough to keep you and your family busy viewing for years to come. Included Shorty 2x Barlow doubles the magnification of both included eyepieces. Use the included Star Target Planisphere, MoonMap 260, Telescope Observer's Guide book, and keychain red LED flashlight to plan stargazing sessions. Take pictures of solar system objects with the included Smartphone camera adapter

Type of review

I purchased the Orion telescope because I trusted the quality of the product based on the fact that they provide a great deal of information via YouTube, and they are located in the U.S. Before I even bought the scope, I watched both Ken and Vanessa's initial setup multiple times, as well as their video on how to use the scope, so I knew exactly what I was getting, how to set it up, and how to use it.Not five minutes into setup, I noticed one of the 3 bolts used to attach the EQ mount to the…

Pros
  • Great product will do business again
Cons
  • Bulky and not easily portable

I like a lot of the little touches that make it .

The scope itself seems solid and well-made. I like a lot of the little touches that make it clearly superior to our previous scope, such as large, chunky thumb screws for collumation adjustment. One minor point of concern: I'm not a fan of the tool tray on the tripod. It's rather difficult to install, and the tripod won't fold up with it present. Which means that you have to either leave it in place and carry the tripod awkwardly, or fumble around with three wing screws that fit into tiny holes…

Pros
  • Got this telescope for my 9 year son. We love it! I would recommend this to family and friends.
Cons
  • Poor quality accessories included in the kit

Don't forget to calibrate it.

This video of Saturn was before I calibrated the telescope, but I didn't take a new video afterwards. This telescope is amazing and is easy to use, especially if you set it up properly every time you want to use it. 1 dial is all you need to use to keep track of everything in space as long as you use it right. I ordered the extra set of magnification eye pieces to be able to see further. When calibrated , things are much easier to see and focus properly. Very happy with this telescope.

Pros
  • Exceeded my expectations; we were able to see some impressive views of the Moon and Saturn.
Cons
  • Not suitable for astrophotography

No instructions for assembly

Took everything out of the boxes to find absolutely NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to put the pieces together. How am I supposed to use it if I can't find info on how to assemble? Lol what the heck.

Pros
  • Easy to move and operate. Great for beginners or experienced
Cons
  • Limited magnification capabilities

Really fun best in my review

Great product and customer support. The telescope is simple to assemble out of the box. Online videos to learn how to use it from the company are very helpful, find them on YouTube.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Not ideal for beginners who are new to stargazing

Purchasing this as a gift? Here's a warning.

PLEASE NOTE: I just want to be clear, this is not a review for the actual functionality and quality of the product. I am merely writing this review as a warning to consumers who are purchasing this item as a gift. If you are purchasing this as a gift, and the gift is for someone that lives in the same household, please know Orion DOES NOT conceal the branding on the box they ship the item in. I purchased this for my wife as a gift for her for this Christmas. When we got home from a day out…

Pros
  • Awesome Telescope!!!
Cons
  • Not suitable for observing objects during daytime

Better go with tabletop version or bigger dobsonian

Some 25 years ago, when I was growing up, I’d be glad to have this telescope. Times change though :). I used to equatorial mounts, so I picked it over tabletop version. But after several uses the mount and telescope itself became a limiting factor for me. Mount is too flimsy and inaccurate. Tripod and counterweight make it not very portable. Focuser on the telescope is wobbly. Viewfinder is somewhat OK. Included eyepieces are good for this scope. Barlow is useless, since it pushes beyond…

Pros
  • great for the whole family to enjoy
Cons
  • Takes a long time to set up and prepare for use

Amazing! - my new review

This is really fun and easy to use. The only problem is that now I want to keep buying other lenses to see even more detail. Well. Not really a problem. LOL!

Pros
  • Great telescope for beginners, excellent quality
Cons
  • Expensive and not budget-friendly
