quick and easy to use

currently studying to become a machinist. One of the high school students gave me a purple file while I was going through the shooting phase. A valuable tool in our toolbox when trying to keep your lathe tools sharp and clean. I didn't have to sharpen my turning tools at all when they started to dull. Run the purple file over the edge a few times and it worked. That saved me a lot of time and that's valuable for the driver.

Pros
  • tools and housewares
Cons
  • cord is shorter than other picks

Smooth little diamond sharpeners.

I took them to work with kitchen knives and saw how they compare to my current sharpening system. I made a simple mount (not even sure it fits the name) that I hold the knife straight on. The mount is large enough that given the length of these stones I can have a 25 degree sharpening angle (I'm happy with a fixed angle for my kitchen knives). My wife has definitely noticed an improvement in knife sharpness over my existing system.

Pros
  • Hand tool
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

these things are great. I have used them as a gunsmith for many years and they are much easier to work with than wet dry paper, emery cloth, files or stones. They cannot be used for all other instrument applications, but where they can be used they are great. They tend to wear down quickly with daily use but I have found that when worn you can use a coarse fabric rather than a medium than a fine etc. If you do this, make sure you wear them evenly, otherwise you may have problems with a too…
