Read the comments carefully

Physically matches the description. However, it does not offer any data conversion properties and allows Firewire power to be passed directly to your USB port. Both ports use two very different voltage levels, so I'm struggling with how this would actually be used.

Fraudulent product - Firewire and USB are *NOT* compatible with each other.

This product is a complete scam. First, Firewire and USB are not interoperable standards. There is no direct port converter. If you get one of these adapters and open them up, you'll see wires and glue. This can not only damage your computer but also cause a fire. NO. TO BUY.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Minor issues

USB power alert and not recognized. DOA

DOA Unfortunately does not work. Upon plugging in, I got an alert that my USB power was exceeded and the device was not recognized. I am trying to connect a high end EOS 1Ds camera to a laptop. The camera has FireWire and does not support USB. There is no way to be sure if the alarm is caused by a faulty adapter or USB specification limitations. I've only had this problem once and it was a defective component.

Use on Thunderbolt or Type-C USB

This works great but you need to understand what it is and how to use it. It doesn't connect a FireWire device to a USB port on a computer, but I was able to connect my FireWre device to a USB Type-C or Tunderbolt port with this adapter. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product /B015Z7XE0A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 everything works fine with these two adapters together. Standard USB is not compatible with FireWire, but USB Type-C is.

Waste of time for computer accessories and peripherals

Well I was warned by previous reviews. It simply does not work! When I'm using a Mac, when I plug it in, I get a warning that the USB port is overloaded and is disconnecting. If I remove it, the USB comes back. I was just trying to use an old FireWire flash drive. Too cumbersome to send back. Do not buy! Update: customer service is pretty good. They took note of my negative review - asked a few questions - found that the device does not support "drive" (note that I used a flash drive). Theyโ€ฆ

That does not work. Dangerous to use

Purchased for Presonus digital mixer. I have a new laptop that doesn't have firewire (the only protocol this mixer uses) so I wanted to see if it can communicate over USB via an adapter, or should I sell it and buy a new mixer. Not only did it not work, I got a very nasty message from my computer about a power surge and shutting down because it was dangerous for the motherboard. Since then I've been getting digital distortion from the mixer when connected to a computer (I haven't tested this in

You cannot connect a FireWire device to a shared USB port.

I would say that there are no problems with the quality of the goods. Most likely a product that offers something that is technically impossible. I wanted to get information from an old external hard drive with a FireWire port. The hard drive has its own power supply. I bought it to connect the drive to my desktop Mac's USB port. I get a message that the drive is consuming too much power and the USB port is temporarily disabled. It is possible that this item has a different function but myโ€ฆ

It might not be what you think

. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't work with any of the use cases I've tried. Mostly audio recording or video editing on equipment from the early 2000s. I'm not sure if I'm speaking correctly, but USB and FireWire are inherently different. Both methods use not only different hardware, but also different software. USB uses ACK/NAK protocol while FireWire uses DMA transfer protocol. In short, FireWire runs at a constant (and high) speed, while USB sends out bursts of dataโ€ฆ
