Flaming River FR1001 Single Timing Review

I've been looking for a timer for my old bikes for a while. I was looking for something that didn't work with a bike battery. This time display runs on D batteries and does exactly what it is supposed to do. The size is suitable for cars with limited access. This is a great simple sync light.

I got this because I have an old Triumph motorcycle. I used to have a SnapOn flashlight with battery cables, but that's long gone. So I thought I'd give it a try inductively. It might work if I use it anytime after dark. It was a very faint light, and the lens, which appeared to be made of plastic, focused the beam to about 20 degrees. Useless.

Built in flashlight was a joke; The faint light bounced far from the center and the sync light didn't work at all. Died on arrival! I waited too long to use it so I couldn't return it to Revain. The company replaced it with a new device. I added two stars for customer service. What's new: Good: works. Bad: The light and flash are off-center, making it difficult to aim. Bad: The light and flash are a little weak. Good: It's comfortable. I would look for a better one if I need one, but these days

I bought a Flaming River FR1001 single wire timing light because I use MSD ignition and others have recommended that this light works fine (MSD even recommends a non-timed lead ). Personally I'd like to use a time ahead light because I don't have a harmonic balancer with timestamps, but I'll get the time tape out to fix that.
