Get a good thermostat

The mat is huge, heats up very quickly and comes with quick instructions. When I say it heats up fast, I mean it. I tested it without a thermostat to see how quickly it would heat up. It heats up to 100 degrees in less than 20 minutes. So I quickly hooked it up to my own thermostat while maintaining a comfortable 84 degrees, which is perfect for what I have. Build quality is interesting, it's a thin thin matte. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Good but not great

Great mat - you need glue and a thermostat!

Works great after a few weeks. I installed it on the side of the tank to keep my hermit crabs warm. I would never use a heater without a thermostat anyway, but this one seems to have enough power to get hot so make sure to keep an eye on the temperature and control it. For me the lack of glue is a big plus as it makes it easy to remove and reposition or place on another tank. I installed aluminum foil tape and insulated with aluminum foil and styrofoam for more efficient heating.

  • Works great for me
Cons
  • Makes me angry

Excellent goods! I use this rug for the main.

Great product! I use this mat as the main heat source for my 50 gallon land hermit crab tank and it keeps my tank (which is insulated with an insulated screen) at 82-84 degrees in summer/spring. It's MUCH better and hotter than XL Zoo Med! I use the XL Zoo Med as a fallback in the winter and with both mats I get the same temperature as using the Flukers alone in the summer/spring! If you're looking for a hotter pad, this is it! I simply used masking tape on the clear edges to attach it to theโ€ฆ

My favorite tank warmer!

I love Fluker heater mats. This is the only type I use for my Ball Python enclosures. I have all three sizes. These thermal mats are very reliable and will last forever. I have used Fluker heater mats for many years and have never had any problems. It is important to choose the right case size and read the instructions. You must use insulation under the mat to properly transfer heat to the case. I use thermostats and dimmers to control the temperature in tanks. I like the fact that Fluker'sโ€ฆ

Excellent Heat Mat Best in Terrarium Heat Lamps and Mats

I have bought two of these heat mats for my sand boas in the last few months. They are very thin and not sticky which is a plus for me. Unlike Zoo Med mats, you don't have to worry about mats getting damaged when upgrading suitcases. However, you don't have anything with you to lift the warm tank under the tank. This isn't required for Exo Terra cases, but if you have a regular reservoir you'll need to devise a method to ensure airflow underneath. Luckily I still have the legs from the oldโ€ฆ

Flukers Premium Heat Mat

I gave this product 4 stars because they didn't tell you that you needed a piece of styrofoam insulation to conduct heat into your aquarium. (It should be at least 6mm thick and the size of the mat you use is 11" x 17" etc.) Luckily I had a piece of styrofoam that worked fine. This heat mat is thin, maybe 1/16 inch and seems to work great. I've only had it for a week so I can't say how it will hold up over time. I bought a hydrofarm digital thermostat to control this heat mat and I am veryโ€ฆ

Pros

Cons
  • Concerns me

I bought two of these large mats for my 40 gallon breeding cage for a pair of king snakes. It seems they have updated the instructions, nowhere does it say to use foam for installation. It just means simply taping the edges of the mat to the bottom of the tank with packing tape (not tape). I think I like the idea of using bubble wrap and cardboard on the bottom to retain more heat. I also have two controllers for my mats, one for the hot side of the tank and one for the cool side, hot sideโ€ฆ
