If you use a Fluval Canister 403-405

, you should have at least one on hand. If you have a Fluval 400 Series canister, it is important to have at least one on hand as a spare. If the clamp breaks, a noise will be generated. You'll be glad you bought a backup. Do yourself a favor and buy one if you have a Fluval canister.

You MUST have spare cases for your FLUVAL!

These cases are KNOWN for snapping ears! You MUST have a few spare canisters on hand if you are using FLUVAL canisters because I promise you will find a broken one or you will break it during scheduled maintenance. If your FLUVAL suddenly starts to make a rattling noise, chances are that impeller cap has broken its ear, allowing the impeller to shift and rattle against the housing. Buy one and keep it handy, they're hard to find in most regions!

cumbersome spare part

This product is manufactured in a canister and over time the plastic will harden and crack. it must be replaced and continue to replace. this is an annoying product. If you don't have a cover, the impeller can make noise and damage the device. so it is a must. There has to be a way to make the filter more reliable and eliminate all those pesky parts. We spend enough money on interiors, why spend money on spare parts. However, Fluval would not be my first choice as a filter.

Achilles heel of Fluval Filter

Has nothing to do with this seller let alone the manufacturer of the goods. This item is of very poor quality and breaks down within a few months. Over the last few years I've spent more on replacement than the total cost of the filter, it's like cheap printer ink in comparison. I think I will soon switch to eheim filters. When I first got two of these BrandNew Fluval filters the impeller cap that came with them lasted over a year, now I'll be lucky if I get one of these that lasts 3 monthsโ€ฆ

These things suck. That's why I have to buy them again and again.

Too bad the Fluval 404 is such a great filter. I keep replacing those stupid impeller caps because the clips keep clicking and not holding the impeller in place resulting in loss of water pressure and a terrible clicking noise. But Fluval is so good that I always buy these things by the dozen and replace them when they break. This is definitely a design flaw. I have 3 of these in my 150g tank and each has had this part break multiple times during its lifetime. Same break, same place. every time

Exact replacement of the problem part

I have been in aquarium maintenance and business since 2006. I have used and maintained Hagen (Fluval) products for a long time. good suggestion for the part and amazon will send OEM replacement part exactly. But why it doesn't get a 5 out of 5 is that the impeller cover for the 304/305 and 404/405 series filters has a "design flaw" and often breaks the mounting tabs. Either by itself or when you try to remove it to clean the impeller and impeller shaft. I have over 40 Fluval filters in myโ€ฆ

  • Problems occur

My Fluval 404 canister filter was making a rattling/squeaking noise when I got home one day. It turned out that the clips on the impeller cover (the little clear plastic pieces on opposite ends of this product) had somehow snapped off. I didn't want to spend $5-10 to replace a flimsy piece of plastic after the stupid clips broke, especially for the extra Revain element. Rather than replacing the cap immediately, as I should have done, I reinstalled it on the impeller, trusting that the veryโ€ฆ
