The company does not support their product

I have used the Fluval FX4 for many years with no problems so I ordered the FX6 with confidence. It arrived without the corrugated tube and from the way this product happened to be packaged (i.e. items not containing the same items) I could tell it had at least been sold to someone else before (if it wasn't was used). I called Fluval first because I hate sending something this big back. Fluval refused to endorse their product and rather arrogantly send me the missing part. I will replace this…

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Security

The Fluval FX range is a workhorse. They come at a high price for a reason. Durability and ease of maintenance are two of those reasons. Smart pump technology and incredible filtration capacity and options take this line of filters to the top of the pack, now add an ultra-quiet motor and this canister stands alone at the top of the pack! Yes, there are many filtering options, but in the end you get what you pay for. In my 30+ years of aquarium keeping I have tried and discarded many other…

Five stars on aquarium pumps and filters

Stop searching and just buy! Bought for my 125g with 4 sea turtles plus a dozen fish. The tap water is crystal clear and still! UPDATE 3/25/18 - No more problems than ever. Polished clear water continues. UPDATE 6/14/18 - 6 months, 3 turtles have doubled in size (one died of RIP) and over 100 guppies (breeding "bunny" fish!). Fully polished crystal clear water and NO issues it's always like this - love love love this filter. UPDATE 11/06/18 - No problems, very satisfied. Added 3 baby turtles. I

Fluval's customer service is the worst I have ever experienced.

I purchased 2 Fluval FX6 Canister Filters less than 6 weeks ago. One filter started making a rattling noise unlike the other filter which is quiet. I have exchanged emails with Fluvals customer support 4-5 times with suggestions on how to fix this issue. In one of my many emails from Fluval, I asked for detailed photos of my setup so they could see if I installed it correctly. (In between all this, customer service accidentally sent me a note meant for the manager asking for suggestions on how…

Wonderful filter - filter

This thing is a beast. I'm writing this after getting a bit frustrated with the setup because the hose clamps they give you for the hoses do NOT fit over the black trim at the top of the tank. At this price it's annoying and frankly a bit ridiculous. I broke the first clip trying to force it which made me angry for paying so much. For the second I took a hacksaw and simply cut out a 2 inch piece of trim after which the clip would fit properly on top. Everything stays fine, but just something to

Big filter, read the instructions!

Approximately three (3) weeks old. I wanted to leave a few things before I forget to install this filter. I have a 120 liter fresh water tank. Replacing the Inland Seas Nu-Clear Model 506 pump with a pump installed in the bottom of the aquarium. I'll post the pump brand later. It was ALWAYS difficult to reinstall after cleaning and prevent leakage. I've had a few Fluval filters in the past and have two for much smaller aquariums that I really like. knows. The instructions are pretty clear and…

Got fx4 - Aquarium Pumps and Filters

I have been keeping fish for about 50 years. I've experimented with many aspects of the hobby, studying everything and doing trial and error. Now I only have one 150 gallon tank, but sometimes it's been a lot. I also have outdoor ponds. I know that most of the crap you read from the so-called experts on the internet is "crap". After 50 years, the basics remain the same. The equipment has improved. Most people have no idea what a filter can or should do. Go to my forums at yardcraphome dot com…

  • Great for me

  • Crumpled packaging

Below are the pros, cons and tips!

Canister filters do not seal well. I think the use case for them MIGHT be great for some. Positive. You can remove and clean the entire filtration system (very difficult with a sump and yes, detritus/other debris can go through your mechanical filtration and stick to your biological media/tank walls/etc) Very quiet Good flow aquarium. can be a disadvantage. I use mine on a 75g tank and a sandy substrate. The current is so gentle that all the debris goes into the canister and I never have to…

Moves a lot of water; Reliable construction.

I bought the FX5 in 2011. Seven years later it still works like new. I bought the FX6 in 2013. Five years later. . . .like new I have kept fish for over 25 years. During that time I have used many different types of canister and HOB filters. My main memory of previous canisters was the rage and frustration of pouring them, installing tricky rubber seals and dozens of finicky parts. . . After that experience, the FX5/6 were such a delight. They are easy to assemble and refuel immediately…
