Type of review

I purchased this item 2 weeks ago. The first time I used it, it broke, ruining 1 bicycle completely, and leaving another needing replacement parts. I have put a call in to customer service and left a message (nobody answered!) requesting a refund for the rack (don't want another rack, since the first one was such a disappointment,) some type reimbursement for the bicycle that was completely destroyed, as well as compensation for the work that will be needed to make the second bicycle useable…

Pros
  • Works great. I really like the folding arm.
Cons
  • The rack can be challenging to secure properly, potentially leading to lost or damaged bikes

Buyer beware!: my feedback

Purchased this rack mod. # BC-7806-2J 2 bike folding hitch bicycle rack year and half ago. Used second time and had metal fatigue break that totalled one bike and almost cause a severe traffic accident. Just wanted all to know this was a hug mistake to purchase this unit. Have not contacted anyone as yet but thought a review would get attention of those who would consider buying this junk. I saw another review on this mod. And they had tried to get a refund on unit plus destroyed bike but had…

Pros
  • ‎BC-7806-4J
Cons
  • The rack may not be sturdy enough to support heavier or oversized bikes

Dangerous bike rack

Purchased this rack on May 28 so we could take grand children biking. So far we used all four bikes on two occasions, and either a single or two bikes about five times for local park access. This week we had two bikes on the rack and traveled some distance with the rack on the back of our camper. Somewhere on the freeway the base of the rack snapped clean and we lost the bikes. No trace when we went back to look but they hit the ground at 65 mph. The break indicates a cheap, inferior metal used

Pros
  • works very well
Cons
  • The rack is difficult to install and requires a lot of time and effort to set up

Easy to assemble, sturdy and convenient!

This is my first bike rack and I had no idea why some would be good or why some were over $500. I knew I wanted to stay under $125 and I wanted a four bike carrier. I started reading a lot of reviews. This only had two reviews (both good) but $99 for a bike rack that held 4 bikes and lowered for rear hatch access was to good to pass up. So far I love it! I love that it fits my 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver so well love that the bikes don't sway or bounce while I'm driving. I'm so glad I learned…

Pros
  • works very well
Cons
  • The rack may not be compatible with hybrid or electric vehicles

Not durable good for me

I used it for local trips for several years with no issues. I just took it on a 2200 mile trip, though, and it was bad news. First, the joint at the bottom of the riser cracked and nearly dumped everything onto the highway. Then, the rubber straps started randomly popping off. By the end of the trip, I had welded the riser, added ropes from the top of the rack to the roof rack of my car, and straps to tie the bikes on to the rack. There are probably better options than this bike rack.

Pros
  • For 2" Class III/IV hitches; the adapter can be removed for use with 1.25" receivers (includes pinch bolt); measure your hitch receiver from the pin hole before purchase to make sure this rack will fit your vehicle; end of the support brace to the center of the bike rack hitch pin hole is 2.5"
Cons
  • The rack is often too bulky to fit in standard-sized garage spaces

Design Defect - Broke off vehicle while in use!

I purchased this bike rack in December of 2015. It was great for 16 months. Then while carrying 4 bikes driving on a city street in San Antonio, the mount broke near the receiver (see pictures). I was lucky no one was following closely, and it didn't happen a few minutes earlier when I was on the freeway. As it was, it will cost around $300 to repair the damage to the bicycles.

Pros
  • Motorcycle & Powersports
Cons
  • The rack may not be adjustable for different-sized vehicles, limiting its usefulness for people with multiple cars

Great Hitch for the price!

This was easy to assemble. Good instructions! However, the Hitch Pin provided is a screw-in type rather than a slid in, making it not usable with most Receiver Locks and you'd need a wrench to remove it. I may bore out the threading or get a small lock for the clevis hole in the pin end

Pros
  • Worked great! Used it with two hybrid bikes for a 5 hour drive with no problems. Super easy to use.
Cons
  • The rack may block license plates or other important information on the vehicle

Very heavy, soft metal will fail, not up to the task.

Thing failed on me after 6 months due to poor construction quality, and it doesn't seem like they will do anything about it. Will update the review if that changes. See below for earlier review.Despite its heaviness, it is not really that strong and is made of very weak metal, particularly the vertical box tube. It failed on me after 6.5 months, while I had four bikes on it. The bottom weld where the vertical member is joined to the hitch adapter has a corner brace but the thing doesn't go high

Pros
  • ‎Rage Powersports
Cons
  • The rack can be challenging to store safely when not in use
