Yes, it's expensive and yes, it's worth it. The painting of the shaking model is complete. Free at last!

Surprisingly heavy and stable. You can save money and tape a bottle of paint to an electric jackhammer if you want, but I refuse to look cheap or silly. This thing is really good and well made, although I hate the fact that it's made in China. This works fine on its own, but I've also ordered some stainless steel ball bearings to throw in model paint bottles that haven't been opened for years. Rapid Paint Modeling Mixer (Vallejo, Army Painter, Citadel and Reaper bottles)

This is my first vortex shaker and I am very happy with it! Why? He handles all the different minifigures, acrylic paint bottles. It's a lot quieter than I thought it would be (I put it on a Costco 6ft plastic table so bad vibrations would be very loud) - I appreciate the dampening and dampeners built into its construction. Works well - solid construction

I didn't have any other mixers (Vortex or any other kind) so I can't comment on them. I have one of the battery powered blenders with a long shaft and a blender head on the bottom - it's messy and slow to use with dropper bottles - I had to grind it a bit to even fit the blender head into the neck of the dropper bottles.
