On the third throw one of the horseshoes broke. I cannot recommend a product that breaks so easily, especially since it was used as intended. The horseshoe split in two when it hit the ground, and it was only thrown the third time.

Ordered on Memorial Day weekend at the beach. We went to use it and after one game the horseshoe broke in half lol. In fact, for over $40, it broke. It's good to buy in person and make sure your shoes are made of solid material and not pressed materials. I would not buy this particular set.

I don't know what these people say about broken shoes. So far I've worn mine and they've held up well. One star deducted because the coating on the inserts is peeling and the coating on the boots could be better. Store the carton in the shipping box. The bag itself is thin. Great intermediate set for my garden. Update 9/4: Downgraded to one star. The red shoes shattered in the fire.

At stake is the amount of reinforcement. The stakes are too short and difficult to see because they are very thin. Horseshoes are pretty heavy and fine, but whatever was painted on them fell off after the first use. We were playing a game and the shoes looked like they had been worn for a year, all the paint was peeling. Made in China, you get what you pay for. This set is suitable for children to play with, but definitely not for serious adult horseshoe play.

I was very picky when ordering a set of horseshoes. Most importantly, they were made of Wrought Metal (stamped from hard metal) and not CAST (liquid metal poured into a mold). They arrived and had a specific type of sand casting where you can see the sand grains coming out of the mold. The main difference and the reason I find this unacceptable is that cast metal is brittle while wrought metal is very strong. "Shoes" seems decent but the inserts are too short and flimsy. Normal stake height should be a minimum of 14 inches and a maximum of 15 inches above the playing surface. But the pegs are less than 20 inches long, so there is less than 6 inches of peg underground to (presumably) withstand when heavy pieces of metal are thrown at it. Also, they are only about 1/2 inch thick. Guaranteed they won't stand up to regular use, not that you'll want to use them that often because you have to stop a few…

We made the game for a family reunion and the third throw of the red horseshoe broke the shoe! I cannot recommend a horseshoe game where the horseshoe breaks while playing! Luckily one of the members of the other family had a different set when they met, otherwise the tournament would have been ruined.
