Great beat! - Straight

I have used dozens of Freud tips over the past 25 years and this one has been just as good as the others. Used it to carve 1 5/8" thick red oak countertops and baseboards and it got the job done with no problems.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Fits

Keep in mind that this is very long.

The only issue, not Freudian, is that it's so long that my Bosch 1617 hits the bottom with a significant portion of the bit still above the table. So for Dado it will be a problem. Unless it was Dado from 12/4 Lumber.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Minor issues

Good mid-range option

Excellent performance. A little more expensive than cheap sets, but they last a lot longer and leave a nice smooth edge. Don't skimp on cutting tools, a bearing or piece splintered off a cheap cutting tool can cause serious bodily injury.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Speed

Used to make a 1 3/4" groove for a >1 Density Tropical Oak (Quercus) door. Requires 5-5mm passes but the finished groove is of the highest quality Quality The only problem is that as the edge wears out fairly quickly and I have no idea if it's even possible to sharpen the bit in an effective way, I'm thinking some sort of attachment with a Chicago Electric Carbide Saw Sharpener is used could, but my experiment along these lines didn't work Don't forget to adjust your spindle's direction ofโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Lots of positives
Cons
  • Little negatives

Just like their saw blades

When it comes to straight knives you have to look to Freud. Like their saws, they hold up best. I have often broken cutting plotters from other manufacturers. Only Freud resisted my insults. They cut very well and evenly. Although this particular product has cut many yards of MDF, it is still as sharp as day one.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

The perfect solid bit. And great price. Super smooth finish on wood

Fantastic price for a solid, super smooth half inch bit. Being a 1/2" rod there is almost no play or chatter. Make sure you have a router that accepts 1/2 inch. All routers that accept 1/2" come with half and quarter collets. Bits can only take a quarter inch, obviously that won't work with this bit. I was surprised at how much material it removed so easily, I'm really not that far from the helix bit.I've used it for edging although I suspect it's not that good for plunge milling. You're bestโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good

Used it to make a 1 3/4" groove for a >1 Density Tropical Oak (Quercus) door I think an effective way could be some sort of attachment with a carbide Chicago Electric saw sharpeners can be used, but my experiment along these lines was unsuccessful.. By the way, don't forget to set the direction of rotation of your spindle to use this bit. Easy to forget, especially after 70 :)

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Expensive
