Works within limits

Kills some desired plants by controlling hair algae. It doesn't get rid of algae completely, but it does inhibit their growth and I recommend it.

Not happy, the algae got worse. Fish died

This thing is terrible. Used according to instructions. My husband and I have had a saltwater aquarium for many years and we know how to use these things. It made the algae a lot worse than it used to be, not to mention one of our surgeons died a few weeks into the attempt. He was perfectly healthy. We need to clean the tank and change the sand.

Wrong product for me - tried another one that worked.

. Look for UltraLife's Blue-Green Slime Stain Remover instead. Find it here on Revain and read my review there. Bought from the same people. But this product works. And there are no harsh chemicals. I think this product is ok, but it didn't help at all with my tank problem.

Pros
  • . Great for me.
Cons
  • . Zero.

I've freed my aquarium from 2 types of algae

Strange. I've had black beard algae (and some green) algae since I started my aquarium. A black beard I couldn't get rid of. I added UV light (killed the green algae) and nothing will kill them, I just scraped them off with every water change (I use tap water I know, I know). I added this algae scrub and the green and black beard algae were gone. I add it to every water change and so far so good.

The best algae chemical I've ever used

If you change your water and filter media regularly, your algae shouldn't be too dangerous. If you notice a sudden bloom of algae, it probably means an ammonia surge. Place this chemical, scrape the edges to make it as soft as possible, let it sit for a while, then vacuum the base. You may need more than one treatment, use them exactly as directed. I don't know if it affects live plants or how it interacts with other chemicals.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • There are flaws

Not very effective if the algae are already heavy.

I have a 1000 gallon koi pond in full sun and have trouble with string algae every spring. I've used a variety of products, some not very fish friendly. This product is very gentle, the fish has never behaved differently and it has been great. But I haven't seen any real results either. It may stop the algae from growing 1 day out of 2 but then they will grow back on the 3rd day and I continue to use it every 3 days as recommended. I was hoping this would kill more algae and help clean the…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Good but not great
