I used it on a trip to Alaska last summer

I have a Garmin Montana GPS that I use for geocaching. Last summer I took my RV on a "wish list" trip to Alaska. I put it on the windshield and attached the Montana to it so I could see it while driving. After 17,000 miles, 5 months and over 400 Geo Caches I have nothing but good things to say about Montana and this holder/charger. If you are purchasing a Garmin Montana, be sure to add this windshield assembly to your order. Karl

Great accessory for GPS, finders and accessories

Garmin car suction cup mount works very well on my Jeep's flat windshield. It holds my Garmin Montana 600T GPS all day without worrying about it falling. It keeps my GPS battery charged during off-road trips and between trips to and from geocaching. The speaker is loud enough to drown out wind noise while driving. I would highly recommend it to any Garmin Montana GPS owner who wants to use it as a car GPS and want it to stay charged while doing so.

Pros
  • Still satisfied
Cons
  • No car

Good concept that needs improvement.

Great baby cradle but as it's for an SUV the choice of suction cup is odd. A screw base would be much better. Why Ram chose a ΒΎ-inch bullet is also a mystery. Most serious SUVs already have 1 inch ball joints and various control arms for them in their cars. The basic stand is traditional Ram style with a 1-inch ball, but the power cord is difficult to fit into the stand. No device is entirely satisfactory.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Expensive

Does what it's supposed to do

I bought this to use in the car and have Garmin talk to me/direct me (Garmin just beeps without it). The voice works with this mount and I like the charger because I don't have to plug the cable directly into the Garmin. The only thing I don't like is that Garmin has gone to great lengths to make all of their products proprietary - GPS, an annual contract for a city navigation system, buying Birdseye maps and now this stand. It all works in the end, but it is expensive.

The block has a design flaw in the connector

It was poorly designed. The cable from the cigarette lighter plugs into a connector attached to the IC (integrated circuit) board inside the device. A design flaw is that the case doesn't hold the socks securely in place, meaning that every time the device slides off the dash, the soldered connection to the IC board takes the brunt of the entire device's injury, including the weight of the GPS . (and in my case a weighted dash mount as I refuse to tape it to the windshield). Eventually the…

Defective charging cable, return date two days overdue

Attached to my Jeep's windshield for the first time going off-road with my new Garmin Montana. The battery continued to drain as I drove deep into the Cascade Mountains on severely washed-out roads. Eventually he began to warn me about death. He was connected and could not understand the problem. I wiggled the cable in the plug and it started charging. As soon as I let go it stops and I get the warning again. We played with it for a long time, trying to "twist" it properly at the location of…
