My first experience with a GPS device and it's mostly very helpful.

Let's get that out of the way right now. Would I buy another one? Answer: I have already done this to give away. While GPS isn't perfect, my three months of use has shown that many of its benefits mitigate the animal's sometimes rebellious nature. There are several things that are important to know. Downloading the map takes about four hours.2. Speech recognition requires you to speak SLOWLY.3. The system sometimes does not recognize manually entered (typed) target information, but it finds the

NOT AS GOOD AS TOMTOM

I'm not sure even a techie can figure out how to make it work the way I want it to. It is very difficult to program and the manual is over 30 pages long. And you need to download and print it - it is NOT included with the GPS as it should be. It says all the features will work without a smartphone, but there are still a few apps to download and get working. The screen shows the distance to the next turn but not the distance to the destination. The displayed speed is 2 mph faster than what my…

Clear, simple navigation but some store locations may be outdated

Bought this unit for my dad who is vacationing in Florida. He doesn't have a smartphone and I wanted to make sure he could get to the desired location in an unfamiliar area. He's a technophobe, but with practice he's been able to use it without too much trouble so far. A nice feature is that I could set the location where it is as "Home" so it can always press "Go Home" and that brings it back to where it is . There are options to navigate by shortest distance or shortest time (default is…

Prevents rather than helps

Where to start? Many searches end in complete disappointment. A few years ago we bought a Garmin Nuvi. She has served us well over the years and we affectionately called her 'Lady'. When we turned off the path, say at a gas station or a restaurant, she grumbled and redirected. Those were the good days, until her screen went black. Fast forward to yesterday. Keep in mind that this is a Garmin DriveSmart 65 and Traffic is used in name only. It didn't come with the traffic update cable. After…

It's great to have an offline navigator again; This one delivers!

I purchased the DriveSmart 65 after switching from a Garmin Nuvi to my cell phone as my primary navigation tool. Cell phone navigators are great, but I miss the convenience of offline navigators. In particular, I didn't like the following aspects of mobile phone navigation: 1) The inability to easily see navigation apps when manually using the phone to make calls. 2) lack of navigation due to lack of cell phone coverage; for example, if you are in remote areas of the Rocky Mountains. If you…
