Works right out of the box

I use it with Tacx Smart Trainer to use Zwift for it. It's good. The price is lower than the similar product offered by Tacx, but it works without any extra steps. I just connect to my windows 7 laptop and it automatically detects it and starts working. Communication with the Smart Trainer was also stable. I've heard that it's often necessary to buy a USB extension cable to get this (or not) ANT transmitter close to the Smart Trainner, but that's not my case yet. My laptop (with the ANT Stick…

Reliable ANT+ communication in Zwift

MacBook Pro and go! Windows 10 desktop and go! I got Zwifting up and running in minutes without doing anything but plugging it in, logging into Zwift, and giving a spin or two to wake up the sensors. I bought a USB extension cable and attached it to the struts next to the ANT+ cadence/speed sensor (optional) using the velcro cable holder. So far there have been no failures in over 100 miles of Zwifting. Zwift logged continuous input from all sensors, including heart rate, with no issues. I…

Works well with TrainerRoad, range is a bit lousy.

This gets the job done with a latch. I'm using OSX and couldn't get the native Garmin ANT+ agent to detect my HRM and cadence sensor. Luckily I bought it specifically for use with the TrainerRoad cycling software and TR worked almost immediately on both of my devices. The range seems a bit lousy - my trainer is about 5 feet from my Mac Mini and even with line of sight between my devices and the USB drive, the TR reports the signal quality as "Poor". I also have an Edge 500 and tested by walking

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Nothing here

Works perfectly until it stops working due to a design issue

This is my second Garmin mini USB ant+ that is not working. Each lasted 1 to 2 years. If it works, it's great. No dropouts when connecting power meter pedals to laptops for trainer road sessions. Small so I can leave it plugged in when I don't need that USB port. Which brings me to a design flaw. The connection of the device is unreliable because the housing is half the size of a typical USB device. This leads to poor contact over time. Whether it's because of the uninstall and reinstall, or…

Zwift/TR: Good first impression

Yes, this Garmin ANT+ dongle is way more expensive than the sub $20 dongles you can buy. I started with one of those cheap ones that plugged into the side of my laptop, which was sitting on a computer shelf on a monitor stand in front of the bike. Worked fine with Zwift but had some crashes on TR. I took an extension, placed it right next to the machine, and then used another extension that holds the wrench upright. Definitely better, but there were still occasional dips in TR. There are no…

Garmin USB ANT+ Stick running Android 4.4 on LG Nexus 5

I am using this Garmin USB ANT+ Stick with my LG Nexus 5 phone with great success. To connect it to your phone, you'll need an OTG (for-the-go) USB adapter, which adds some technology overhead to your current setup. I ended up getting a case with a wrist strap and modified it so that the USB OTG cable exits at the bottom and then attaches to the earphone's elastic loop. My setup is as follows: - LG Google Nexus 5 phone (Android 4.4) - ANT+ driver (free download from play store) - Endomondo…
