Gates 43230BH Premium Engine Water Pump: Superior Performance for Optimal Engine Cooling Review

I must have a bad batch. Put 3 Gates water pumps (on the same car) and they all leak after a few hundred miles. The company gave me a replacement every time and eventually refunded my money. Unfortunately I had to buy a genuine Ford part for $110 more.

Great replacement and a lot cheaper than my local shop. Just check the tightening of the bolts on the pump itself. I need to tighten things up a bit. correct pulley puller. I did this with a large three arm puller and bent the cam a bit. But still works fine

Installed in '06 Mazda 3.0 works great. Uses the same design that failed in the OEM part. In particular, the outlet pipe is made of plastic in the metal body of the pump. Heat transfer between plastic and metal is different, causing the plastic to weaken and crack. The OEM case lasted 185,000 miles, hopefully this one will too.

The manufacturer recommends replacing the well pump as a whole. I found a crack in the plastic part of the case. The replacement was relatively easy just 3 bolts and reattach the hoses, there is a trick to refilling the coolant, I remove the rear hose from the radiator to bleed the air when I fill the radiator with fresh coolant.

Plus: Mine came with a metal impeller, not a plastic impeller. Cons: I didn't have the case included as pictured and the gasket was torn. Installation was pretty easy except you have to remove the drive pulley that was pushing the cam. I used a simple 3-arm puller to pull it off. To reinstall I used an M8x1.25 bolt, large head and washer to press the pulley back onto the cam.

I installed this on my Ford Fusion and it worked great. However, you will need additional tools for this. One is OTC 7483 and the other is OTC 7771A Installer. You actually have to use the nut from 7771A with 7483 to reinstall the water pump pulley. Also, I had to use lube on the threads of the tool where the screw sits in the cam to keep it from damaging it and keep everything running smoothly. I hope this review helps!

Water pump and belt fit my 2006 Mazda 6 3.0 which shares many engine components with similar model year Ford 3.0 V6 models.
