The only active 802.3af POE extender I've tried that really works

It's really active 802.3af on both the ingress and egress ports, so this POE works -Extenders really. You connect a cable from an existing 802.3af POE switch or 802.3af POE injector to the input of the device to allow the extender to receive power and data. You can then connect one or two POE PDs (Powered Devices) such as IP cameras or non-POE devices to the two outputs and they will still work. That last part is key, most cheap POE extenders won't work if you plug a non-POE device into the…

Good quality, works like a charm

I needed to add an ethernet connection to a remote network device in my electrical panel, but didn't want to add a separate circuit and 120v outlet to power a to supply standard circuit breakers. I have this and it was powered by my Juniper EX3300-48P switch from a nearby ethernet pass with no problems. Seems a bit pricey for what it is, but overall it was cheaper and faster than the other options for my scenario.

Pros
  • Crossing my fingers
Cons
  • Appearance

This device will work fine with standard PoE IP cameras, but will not work with a camera that has a 48- V to 12V PoE Splitter requires the PoE splitter, as evidenced by the lack of a power LED on the splitter. I tried this on 3 different splitters and they all didn't work. I solved the problem. I've found that the extender's output ports don't power the expected positive power supply pins 4 and 5, or negative power supply pins 7 and 8. To use a 48V to 12V active PoE splitter, you must use an…

PoE POWER PER PORT

The devices I bought work in the application I want to use them for. I assume the 30 watts listed is actually 15 watts per RJ45 connection. I would like to know if the manufacturer has other devices with higher power, up to t0 48W. Some high-resolution cameras require that much power, especially if they are PZT type.

Pros
  • Beautiful appearance
Cons
  • Long wait
