I'm still not sure if I should try again. The first was missing a piece of wood, the second had a deep crack. I just couldn't keep them clean. I would say the grain of the wood was nice - both had a darker contrast and would look great oiled. The first time I didn't notice the mistake right away, oiled and used. The functionality was great.
