Leather strap has a hard surface, it is tough, has surface irregularities; so it doesn't fit the razor. The razor blade is not making the constant contact it should. It is none other than vegetable tanned leather or Hispanic leather often used for slings. The fabric has an uneven, horizontal seam or ridge; So when the razor moves across the belt, it's like a speed bump. For some reason my attempt to upload photos. That does not work.

The quality of this product is definitely in line with the best products on the market. This is definitely not a leather sling for beginners as you can trim or even cut the leather. Try other cheaper leather slings and leave these behind when you switch to an expensive sling. I also applied 2 coats of leather conditioner to soften it up a bit as it is a very thick leather. I paid $40 for this strap while others pay $25. I am not sure if it is the same product but for this price I would give 1 star more. I've tried hitting it with a razor, but I also use slings for chisels, planes, and knives. It has little traction and I've treated it with leather (saddle cream) to loosen it up, but it still feels like a sponge. Hope it improves.
