Like potholders I made as a kid

I bought a set for a loom and an extra bag with loops for my handmade grandson (8 years old) to keep him busy on weekdays. stay at my house He quickly learned to weave and made some pot holders as gifts for his mother and grandmother. He loved it. (Please note that the last 2 stitches are difficult for a child to complete so the help of an adult may be needed as well as the crochet required to remove the pot holder from the loom (the hook is included and was easy for me to use).)) This kit is…

Best Oven Mitts Ever - The Ones You Made

I had a loom decades ago and recently decided to replace the oven mitts I was making back then. (Yes they are that good and last so long!) I got out my old loom and loops. I forgot how many loops need to be cast on because they were tiny or huge, unfinished loops or gaps. It seemed wasteful but I ordered a new set. Wow. Everything else, by that I mean ALL loops of the right size. The hook is excellent, the hook for finishing is included. And the pins on the loom are bent outwards a bit, which…

Iconic sewing glove

Bought for our 8 year old. I helped her get started, and then I realized that she was having some difficulties. Due to some health issues, her arms and hands are not very strong and she had a very hard time pulling the stitches through, especially when we finished the potholder. Maybe other 8 year olds would do better. I tried to finish for them and was surprised that even I had such a hard time with the finishing stitches. Otherwise, the metal frame is excellent. I would never recommend a…

My son fell in love with weaving when a friend gave him a demo.

My son fell in love with weaving when a friend gave him a loom to show at a craft fair and she offered him this loom since he was only 5 years old at the time. He hasn't used it for a while, but now (4 years later) he sometimes surprises me with a potholder for his Mimi or just for our own kitchen. He's endured the abuse of three children for so long, including a mother whose housekeeping isn't up to scratch, and a complete move to a much larger house where he was actually trampled and abused…

The pin slips off the loom hooks when the last page is finished.

I am 82 years old and have been sewing for many years. I did them when I was very young and had no problems. Decided to try it as a gift for my granddaughter. Well I couldn't believe the heartache it brought me. The material is so cheap - hanging threads and cheaply made. Loops easily fall off hooks that are too short and tools are almost useless. When I knitted three sides, all the stitches came from the last side! I did what anyone would do back then: I said a few joking words, took…

Very happy with the quality in all respects :)

There was a crappy plastic loom with no name, traditional size, from some craft store. It broke many years ago, I pulled out about 4 thumbtacks when it broke on a cast so I have never replaced it with a better product until now. Half of the vintage potholders I've made on an old loom are short lived after heavy daily use so I decided to try this one as it had good reviews. I'm super, super happy! First, it's a metal loom, not plastic. For the price, this is a really tough, sturdy little loom…

Very close to what I had 60 years ago.

I almost forgot about this little loom - I first learned how to make these pot holders in the 1950's before I even went to school (I was probably 5 years old). My brother and I spent many years making them and selling them around the area to add $0.25 a week to our pocket money. My mom taught us how to make them and provided us with bows while we made our own patterns. One thing I remember very well is that she eschewed nylon loops in favor of cotton loops. Why? This is because nylon slings can

Well made loom, tools, instructions and loops

I bought 3 or 4 different staplers. I also bought different bows. Harrisville Loom, Tools and Loops - BEST, FAR! I believe cotton loops stand up to the heat when used as pot holders. Grinding with plastics - oh they won't. So don't use them like real potholders! But you can use these 100% cotton loops. Also, ALL of these hinges will fit your Harrisville tack. There are no failures. The other hinges I bought had TONS that didn't fit the machines. And the colors of the loops. Harrisville cotton…

Difficult for adults, not quite suitable for children

The good thing: This loom is very durable. It makes nice thick potholders that look way better than those made with cheap nylon loops years ago. In fact, this is the "adult" version of these "kids" pot holders. The size of the finished pot holder is approximately 5-3/4 inches. The good thing: Weaving is easy, although it gets tight on the last 3-4 stitches. Maybe the kids should be able to do this part themselves. need a little help with the final loops. I've found that stretching all loops…
