Description of ๐Ÿ“ถ HiLetgo SIM800L GPRS GSM Quad-Band Breakout Module with SIM Card Slot, Antenna, and Input Voltage Range of 3.7~4.2V

Mini GSM / GPRS breakout board is based on SIM800L module, supports quad-band GSM/GPRS network, available for GPRS and SMS message data remote transmission. The board features compact size and low current consumption. With power saving technique, the current consumption is as low as 1mA in sleep mode. It communicates with microcontroller via UART port, supports command including 3GPP TS 27.007, 27.005 and SIMCOM enhanced AT Commands. AT command interface with "auto baud" detection. TTL serial port for serial port, you can link directly to the microcontroller.

SIM not recognized

We bought several modules at different times but none of them could get it to work. We kept getting the message that the SIM card is missing. Internet searches and Revain accused the modules of being buggy and said you can order 10 and find 4 good ones. In the end we found that we put the SIM card in with the back. Ouch! Flipped them and all was good. The module seems to be quite good for this price

Pros
  • Mini GSM/GPRS card based on SIM800L module, supports quad band GSM/GPRS network, available for GPRS data long distance transmission and SMS messaging.
Cons
  • I will add later

Take others, these didn't suit me.

editing my review. Having just posted a one star review describing that the two devices I received didn't work and the same SIM800L chips worked with a different form factor, I tried the two devices again and they worked . I'm not sure what happened, I swear I've been trying for the last 3 days running the same AT commands and they just didn't register on the network but now they do. One star off because I couldn't get it to work for 3 days. Maybe you're less lucky.

Pros
  • TTL serial port for serial port, can be connected directly to the microcontroller
Cons
  • old

I bought five of these in two separate orders. The first two that came did not recognize the SIM card. I was able to determine that this was due to the I/O line on the SIM not being raised high and therefore not reading the SIM's response correctly (because the IO line would remain logically low) . See the attached image of a working SIM ATR reply (left) and erratic I/O behavior on two of these modules (right). Please note that these tests were run back-to-back using the same SIM card with theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • It communicates with the microcontroller through the UART port, supports commands including 3GPP TS 27.007, 27.005 and extended AT commands from SIMCOM.
Cons
  • There are new competitors
