The only drawback of this fastener is installation restrictions in the places where the mounting holes are drilled. I had to drill my own front mounting holes due to the design of the canopy I was putting on. Also, it's been working great for a few months.

Use on a prefab door we built for our cab. LOVE the fact that it can be installed with a large drill (no cutting out the inside/side of the door to fit a traditional doorknob). Installed in 15 minutes, works like clockwork. I ordered a second one for the back door.

This latch is pretty good, and not just for swing gates (my gate doesn't open both ways and it works fine. My only complaint is that it comes in a gloss black, but fast in weather It's not ugly, but it's definitely boring, and I don't know if the finish will continue to deteriorate.

Lowes sells the best fastener, it is not pre-lubricated so it squeaks and sticks for the first week. Also, the receiver has a blunt end so it won't close on its own. So if you think this will work with self-closing hinges, think again. His hard work would be good, maybe for a barn door that doesn't care if it creaks and gets tough.

Mounted on tall timber gates with perfect finish. The frame of the fence is 2x4's and the 4" lumber frame didn't have enough depth for the main lock - looks like 5" lumber for bracing would be sufficient. Installed well, very close after installation. I wish it would close more smoothly, but hopefully the spring mechanism will loosen up after some use. The solid locking action is a nice feature. I don't like how cheap the black trim looks when you look closely. I'd consider a few coats of good…
