Large Mash Tank Bulkhead

This is exactly what I need to convert my 10 gallon Rubbermaid (Home Depot) beverage cooler into a brew mash tun. One end has 1/2" male NPT threads for attaching to a ball valve, the other end has 1/2" female NPT threads for attaching a hose plug (on the double bottom). The hex and washer in the center of the nipple are integrated, so only one gasket is required on the outside. Good product!

Pros
  • Bulkhead
Cons
  • Drill Kit

In short, they have been used many times and it is always difficult for us to prevent leakage. When I bought a new kettle, I was determined to find the best one. I have reused my ball valves and other gear but bought these bulkheads. Seal them with a built-in washer and nut that fits best. They shouldn't be too tight, the hole is a bit larger, but…

This thing won't leak, but it does require a 1 inch hole.

This bulkhead connector is awful! Integrated flange and flat seal ensure maximum sealing surface even with large bores. (see caution). I used two and the installation is very easy. HOWEVER, one caveat. This port requires a 1" hole instead of the usual 13/16" hole found in most kettles. You will need a good quality double flanged SHARP plug. Step drill to enlarge the bore and remove burrs Sealing is done on the outside of the boiler or tank with a flat silicone sealing washer Inside a large…
