I used this on a hot water boiler. The boiler is over 43 years old. Thermocouple changed every 7 years. I think it's quite normal to be on fire all the time.

My stove pilot failed. It lights up while I'm holding the button, but goes off when I release the button. This part was cheap enough to order and try, and installation is pretty easy. Just screw on both ends and you're done! My pilot fired immediately and stayed ablaze. My application is a 7 year old Smith gas boiler. This thermocouple is perfect. I've used longer, but 30 inches is enough and not too long. Every year, until October, before the onset of winter, I make a simple adjustment to my boiler.
