I couldn't compress them by hand. thought they were trapped but when i put them on they work. Here's the problem. When I open the hood, it wants to rocket open with a lot of force instead of an easy and pleasant lift. no big problem if i hold the hood and let the hood go up. And yes, they are made in China.

I'm a little boy and trying to check oil or anything under the hood was nearly impossible with hood lifters that didn't work on my newly purchased 17 year old car . Jeep.
