Hutzler 359YL Onion Saver Yellow Review

While I love this product, I had trouble opening it. I try to twist, sometimes prying a bread knife to start the opening and finish with a twisting motion. I tried it with a damp cloth. It does not matter. I fight every time. BUT it keeps the onions fresh. Despite the problems I still find it useful as it keeps the bulb from drying out thus promoting lifespan/use and eliminating waste.

I have had this product for about 10 years now and love it. Eventually it broke and I ordered it from Revain. This product has been made cheaper, is now made of much thinner plastic and, as mentioned, is almost impossible to open or close. If you hold the bottom and twist or poke to open it, it will NOT work. My husband even greased the inside of the lid a little but to no avail. It's a piece of junk.

. I had one before we lost the last one in a house fire and had to find another. We use it all the time. Place about half an onion in the bowl, seal and refrigerate. No onion smell in the whole fridge, nada. And dried onions. Durable because it has withstood the occasional knock on the counter well. Easy to clean with soap and water or in the dishwasher. If this one breaks for some reason I will try to get another one.

I bought one of these in the supermarket about 10 years ago because I thought it was funny. It turned out to be insanely helpful. It keeps your onions nice and fresh and also makes them easy to find if you have a crazy fridge mess like we did. Ours ended up breaking so we had to replace it. My only complaint is that it can be difficult to open at times. Almost impossible with wet hands. This one looks just as durable as our previous one and has lasted 10 years.

I bought this to store freshly chopped shallots and other onions. I used to keep them in a plastic bag in the fridge. While efficient, our fridge still smelled strongly of onions (not the nicest). I found this simple container online and thought "why not?" and bought it. To my surprise, this effectively prevented that strong odor from entering our fridge and kitchen. Can be washed in the dishwasher.

This is my second onion screensaver. He also does what he has to. Keeps partially cut onions fresh and greatly reduces onion odor in the fridge. It's also good to see in the fridge. In the end, my first one broke at the crossing. But that's after prolonged use and a few drops on the tiled floor. I see several reviews that it is difficult to open and close. It arrived on time and is as described. My sister-in-law liked them so much that she gave them to her colleagues as small Christmas gifts. Seems like an odd gift until you use it and realize it keeps chopped onions fresher longer and has a scent too! No more weird onion taste from the vegetable bin! The plastic is flimsy so don't drop it and I'd suggest not putting it in the freezer, although that's just *my* opinion, other users might find it okay in the freezer. I suppose it will become too…
