I use these pumps with skimmer in my aquarium. I bought a new one last year, it only lasted a year before it stopped. I have ordered a new one. When it arrived the engine was running but it wasn't pumping water. I asked Amazon for a new one which arrived the next day. I plugged it in and on the highest setting it pumped about 5 gallons an hour. The top speed is believed to be 185 gallons per hour. The first I had lasted about 3 years. I don't know why this pump has so many bad reviews. I've had the L20 for almost 2 1/2 years now and have never had a problem so I'd say it's reliable and good value for money. I use it submerged in a bucket to add reclaimed reverse osmosis water to my tank for a water change. From the bottom to the top of the tank is just over 4 feet, which the pump handles perfectly and is almost silent. I'm sure there are more powerful pumps out there that some people might need, but I don't. All I can say is
