This is a wonderful book. The first half is a scholarly but interesting and accessible description of traditional Icelandic knitted shoe insoles. The second half uses unique traditional patterns and simple techniques in different knitting patterns. Beautiful and successful pictures. I love it!

I love Helen Magnusson's work. I recently had the pleasure of meeting her in Reykjavik and she is lovely. I bought her book before the trip (Icelandic Handknits) along with several books on textile arts in Iceland. Your dominance over others. When I came back I bought it and was not disappointed. She takes traditional Icelandic patterns and reinterprets them not only with information about traditional uses, but also for more modern uses. This is a beautiful book with really helpful content.

I found this book to be a fascinating history of Icelandic knitting. Much of the book is devoted to the historical Icelandic tradition of knitting shoe insoles. The photographs of shoe inserts in the first part of the book are particularly interesting. They are very beautiful too. So much beautiful knitting disappears under your feet where nobody sees!
