Ideal Fuel Water Separator Marine 120AT NPT ZG1/4-19 Automotive Parts with Fitting - Complete Combo Filter Diesel Engine (Includes 2 Fittings, 2 Plugs) Review

I have an old Racor 120 that needed cleaning but also needed a new filter. Was in the process of buying a replacement filter but also wanted to replace the bowl and was put off by Parker's price tag of over $50. Got it for about a third of the price, looks and fits just like the original and am happy with my purchase. I'll be on the lookout for leaks, but I think overtightening can sometimes be the cause. So far, so good.

I had nothing but problems with the 82 Nissian SD22 engine running out of fuel until I installed this filter in place of the original factory filter. Apparently they stopped making the original SD22 diesel engine filter in 82 Nissan or Datsun which is actually a strainer. When I bought it from the parts store it looked exactly the same from the outside but wouldn't let any diesel through. because it was (I think) for petrol engines. Great little water separator and filter. Yes, the image is upside down in the ad. (Apparently the seller has no idea that fuel floats on water). Important things to know. This filter has four ports, two inputs and two outputs. It comes with plugs for two extra connections (which most people don't need) BUT the plugs are not teflon taped and screw tight. If you install this filter and do NOT remove these plugs, cover them with teflon tape and put them back in place, these plugs will likely leak.

Not a bad little filter. 10 microns. I found a small problem, not knowing if it was just my installation or not, I was able to fix it. Fuel flows down the center tube as the tank fills it and then passes through the pleated filter element, presumably squeezing out the water. I did not witness the collection of water. not yet confirmed. My problem was that if you blow in the direction ports like this, the input pass goes to the filtered pass. I bought this filter because I thought it would be a relatively inexpensive option compared to buying a more expensive filter. I bought it because I didn't want to spend more than $100 top and bottom (Racor(R) is more than double the price). Unfortunately I didn't read the fine print and the threading on this model is not standard for North America. I ended up having to tap the thread to a 1/4" NPT thread to fit each 1/4" barb.
