I like the feel and how it works

I like the feel and how it works. I can't get them to work. The non-contact tester is great, but the device just freezes. Replaced battery to no avail. To resolve the issue I called Ideal and asked what was going on. The service told me that they would contact the engineers and wait for the call. I'm still waiting. Honestly, I've believed in the perfect tester for 40 years. It's the only kind I like. I've tried different types and always come back to my ideal testers. Now that I have my own…

No Batteries - Tester

I have a very reliable volt/ohm meter that I bought a few years ago that runs on batteries. The ohmmeter has served me well over the years, but it has a downside; I have to remove the batteries after each use to prevent corrosion from accumulating in the meter. This is because the amount of time between uses can cause the batteries to drain. This problem does not exist with this volt test magnetic voltage tester because the tester does not contain batteries. It tests AC or DC up to 660 volts…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • boring packaging

Good reliable voltage/open circuit tester

The tester is excellent for measuring voltages. It's not a meter, so it won't tell you exactly what voltage you're at, but it can tell you if you're dealing with 120, 220, 277, or 480. It vibrates and glows. The continuity tester lights up with only one LED. There are no sounds or other signs, so rely on your eyesight. The test leads are protected by sliding sleeves that retract and spring forward to protect the metal leads. The sleeves can be rolled up a little, then they stay behind and don't

One of the best basic tools for any electrician

I used one form or another of this device for 40 years when I was a union electrician. like most others. A wiggy will never replace a good VOM except in one area. Security. It is not fooled by "ghost" voltages, induced voltages that aren't there, or RF interference. It doesn't matter if you have AC or DC power, it actually identifies it for you and you never have to remember if the wires are connected to the correct terminal. When the magnet moves the piston, you know there is voltage there…

Pros
  • A handy item
Cons
  • There are shortcomings

Almost every electrician carries one of these

I have been doing electrical work for many years. I have used this model tester many times, this is a device for professional electricians to pre-test the circuit. The reason I bought a new one (there is one in my tool box) was because I was out of town for work and my wife had a dead outlet. No switches, dials, batteries, etc. and virtually shockproof. I sent her this tester to test the circuit with her, quite successfully for a layman. Another reason I chose this unit over a $10 tester with…
