Infrared Thermometer HOLDPEAK HP 2732 Pyrometer Thermometer Review

I tested this at home in a room where the thermostat read 74 degrees. I got readings 10 degrees higher (85) and then reverted back to readings 10 degrees lower (65) for the same objects. After that, I just can't trust him to get accurate information about the things I need him for.

This item does not work. I'm a blacksmith and I've tried this article on estimating steel temperatures in the 1000-2000 degree range and this article has no idea what the temperature of my metal is. Orange steel which should be in the 100-200 range over 1300 registers. It will register no more than 200 for a forge temperature well over 1700 degrees. Don't waste money. You better guess. You'd be closer with a guess.

Gave reasonable readings at first, but after approx. Like 135F skin surface temp when standing indoors at any emissivity setting. The cycle appears to repeat itself after a long enough pause - a few reasonable readings and then the deep end. I contacted support and got a quick reply but the conversation died out and now I can't access Revain. Seems like a bet on whether I'll get a good one.

I don't usually take the time to comment on a product I've bought but this time I really want to do it! I've wanted one of these for a long time (like smelting metals in a forge). I could buy cheap thermometers with thermocouples but didn't for safety reasons. Your device keeps me at a safe distance and makes my work less stressful. Bought to take the temperature of a forge. It is difficult to get readings in both laser and infrared modes. The reading jumped from 250C to 980C, this may be due to heat waves coming from the forge but I don't think so. Fahrenheit is useless, at 800C F should be well over 125! Poor device but I'll probably look around for a better brand. I can't say anything about the accuracy because there is nothing comparable at higher temperatures. What is "heat" in this review?

So for this thermometer the shipping was pretty quick which is good. Now it's not so good. The sensor only seems to "work" half the time I use it; and by work I mean enabling and showing the reading. When the reading appears, it remains in Celsius despite my attempts to change that setting to Fahrenheit. The instructions that came with it don't really help. First of all (I had them for an hour) I bought both a HoldPeak 1800 and a HoldPeak 985C APP. The HP-1800 is +0.3% different than my existing ThermoWorks unit (very VERY old LCD is fading and needs replacing, but as it's still very accurate I might just be looking for a new screen). HP-985C-APP is off but within specification by +2.0 compared to HP-1800. It would be great if there was a way to calibrate one block under another, but I'm quite happy with +2.0.
