Easy to install, works well

I purchased this item to use the low voltage control to turn my oil free air compressor on and off. It's easy to install. My air compressor draws about 16 amps at 120VAC single phase. So far this solid state relay is working as expected. It says a cooler is needed. My air compressor only runs for a minute or two at a time, so I haven't noticed any noticeable heat output from this unit. I used a heatsink on the back and just installed it in a 4" square plain back switch box. that seems to give…

Use a heatsink!

I think all the people who melt their SSRs didn't get a reminder to use the heatsink even though the product description says so. I installed mine on top of an old CPU heatsink with a fan, and after running 16A continuously at 120VAC for an hour, the SSR didn't even feel warm. The relay also responds to a 12VDC PWM signal as expected, switching my 120VAC load on and off as expected. , but if you're using a cheap SSR like this, you should probably plan to run it at a fraction of its current…

Not for continuous loads otherwise ok

Okay I didn't realize SSR probably wasn't for my purposes but this item works as advertised. Even at 1/4 the declared power, it probably won't be able to handle sustained loads. It says 40A, but even with a load of 6A for 1 hour it heats up significantly. I'll try to add a heatsink (arrived today) but I suspect solid state relays aren't rated for sustained loads. For controlling dual exhaust turbines, each drawing about 1200 watts and 70% on, these relays are not suitable for this purpose. For…
