DANGEROUS! THE FIRE! DO NOT USE MORE THAN 30A (WIRE #10).

The smoke detector reported a problem near the batteries. Flame detected from melted wire insulation on solar controller. There have been complaints in the past that although the specs say "100A", the connections to the controller don't seem capable of handling 100A.

  • Certified
Cons
  • Hard to tell

No 100 amp charge controller.

I initially followed the link to a 100A charge controller. So 100 amps. When you receive it, it is labeled with a 40 ampere rating. The terminals are not big enough for a 100A load. The marketing showed 30-100A so it's not clear if there was a discrepancy here.

Pros
  • hands-free
Cons
  • there are nuances

Cheap junk isn't worth the money. Hardly ever works

Terrible product. I bought it to replace the cheap one that came with my solar panel. The cheap factory one from my solar kit is 10x better. It's not an MPPT and takes hours to charge my phone. Going back to my old one, charging the phone from 0 to 100 took less than 45 minutes. It's complete rubbish. I hate that.

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Hardly ever

I tried another "PowMr 40A Solar Charge Controller - Solar Charge Controller 12V 24V, Dual USB, Adjustable Parameters, LCD Display and Timer Setting, On/Off Clock (40A)" to replace because I thought it was an MPPT controller. Even if it's an MPPT (which I doubt) the screw terminal connection isn't designed to accommodate the size of conductors you need for a 40 amp device. In fact, the screw clamp seems to have failed when I pushed one of them too far. To add insult to injury, theโ€ฆ

  • Pleasant to use

Read it! suitable for energy regulators

I ordered this a while ago and only started using it a month ago. I used it 24/7 with a 115Ah deep cycle battery with a Rich Solar solar panel. I haven't had any problems yet and am adding a few more panels. The negative reviews are probably unfounded. Mounting holes are typical for this type of device. The case is made of plastic. Also, it should be noted that I didn't try to charge anything directly from the USB sockets. I'm using 10 gauge wire and it's fused on both ends like everyone elseโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • No instructions

Not an MPPT, but still a bargain.

Many things in life "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't" and this is one of them. For a device to be an MPPT, it must have a higher battery charge current than the current coming from the PV, because that's the whole idea of an MPPT ---- You save maximum power, so a higher current is produced for a weaker battery . required charging voltage. For example if the PV and Bat voltages are 17 vs 14 you should see a reverse current ratio of say 1.4 vs 1.7 assuming 100% conversion butโ€ฆ
