Good and bad. to Aquarium Heaters & Coolers

Easy installation. Very nice features. I use it in my 500 gallon turtle tank. Even if it's only 1/2 full. The heater struggles to keep 250 gallons of water at 82 degrees. I'd say my basement is cool, 65-70 degrees, but with some claims of this heater heating aquariums larger than 1000 gallons, I figured this thing should have no problem keeping my 250 gallons up to date with that some of the requirements are far fetched or minimal and set to a much lower temp than mine. Throw in an outrageousโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • There are disadvantages

Not worth the price. Very disappointed

All I can say about the JBJ True Temp Titan Aquarium Heater Kit is 'Save your money', it's not worth the price paid. The heater doesn't hold the temperature at all, it goes up and down all the time, it doesn't stay at the temperature you set it to. If you don't pay attention to the temperature and keep adjusting it, you can guess that it's just as good as mine. I just don't trust that at all. The heating works, but you have to monitor it constantly. I am very dissatisfied with the JBJ True Temp

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Out of style

Fantastic heater, best in the fish and aquatic animal category

Expensive, uses a lot of energy but is essential for a large aquarium. The plastic case protects my stingrays from burns. Update: 2015-09-02: still works fine. 2 other heaters have failed in my aquarium in the last two years (significantly increased calorific values). But this one is still running. I bought a second one for another tank and this is my first time having an accurate and safe heater in this tank. Update: 08/18/2016: still works! This is the best aquarium heater I have ever hadโ€ฆ

Faulty temperature sensors, REQUIRED scheduled replacement

The 300w unit worked for 8 months. Then the "remote temperature sensorโ€ failed, and without it the block is no more useful than a brick. After several emails to JBL customer service requesting all necessary purchase documentation, they asked us to soak the sensor in lemon juice, which failed. They then agreed to send us a new one but they said they need cleaning every 3-4 months and the sensor needs a full replacement every 10-12 months? It's funny that they don't advertise it! If that's notโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Possibly the worst aquarium product ever on the market. Our aquariums have 13 such heating systems of different power. So far 5 out of 13 have malfunctioned due to incorrect temperature readings from the sensor. As with other reviews, the sensor is starting to measure water temperatures well above the actual temperature in the aquarium. Therefore, your thermostat reading will never be low enough to turn on the heater and warm up the water in the aquarium. Not to mention the 1,000 watts that one

Pros
  • Good cause
Cons
  • Safety
